Free CD and DVD burning software

By Kevin Carbonaro - Posted on 28 July 2009

Last night my Nero DVD burning software which came with my DVD-Writer just died and unfortunately I lost the driver CD where it was included.

I did not want to buy a whole suite of burning software. All I needed was basic DVD Videos writing functionality. Surely there must be some free software around to do just that.

I spent a couple of minutes searching on the Internet and found what I required and have to say that I got more functionality than I needed for free. The functionality that CD Burner XP has, covers what most people require out of a DVD burning software.

CDBurnerXP is a free application to burn CDs and DVDs, including Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs. It also includes the feature to burn and create ISOs, as well as a multilanguage interface. Everyone, even companies, can use it for free.

Key Features

  • burn all kinds of discs
  • audio-CDs with or without gaps between tracks
  • burn and create ISO files
  • data verification after burning process
  • create bootable discs
  • multi-language interface
  • bin/nrg → ISO converter, simple cover printing and much more!
  • Operating Systems: Windows 2000/XP/2003 Server/Vista/Windows 7

Hey Kevin,

Ace blog! ;-)

Have you ever tried Quick Media Convertor from Cocoon Software: http://www.cocoonsoftware.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1

It's free and let's you convert to/from AVI, flash, DivX, Xvid, iPod, PSP, AVI and lots of others. I've used it to convert AVI files to Flash but want to test converting to DVD format as that'll be a cool function to use.
